The Center
Kishorit is a non-profit bearing company for the benefit of the public. It was set up by a
group of parents and professional people in 1994, it's goal being the establishment of an
integrated community comprising a communal settlement/kibbutz, and a village for adults
suffering from difficulties in learning, daily activities and adjustment, while affording their
parents the peace of mind that their children will be provided with a home, occupation
and care for their entire lifetime. The village is built as a community modeled on the
Israeli Kibbutz. The community members are partners in most decision making processes
and the organization of the village ( including its management) as well as helping each
other to arrive at personal resolutions regarding their private and social lives.
Zootherapy, and especially the use of dogs, has been proven to help reduce tension and
frustration, develop compassion, and responsibility, and improve the understanding of the life
cycles and relationships. The dogs answer the need for friendship, for a connection and
for attention, which contributes to the member's improved assertiveness and self-image.
The center specializes in breeding Miniature Schnauzer, chosen because of their small
size and pleasant nature. Our dogs, most of which have won awards in national and
international competitions, are bred from blood lines of the best breeding stock in the
world. The dog's eyes are checked on a regular basis.
The Center is of the highest standard and includes boarding services, a beauty salon,
veterinary supervision and breeding services. A special trainer has recently attended on a
regular basis to train one dog for a deaf member. The members train and present the dogs
in competitions and at exhibition grounds around the country, and they see participation
and achievement as the highest priority.
Some eight members work daily in the center. The members raise dogs that they leave in
the morning and collect at the end of the workday. The relationships that develop
between the dogs and their carers are heart-warming, and for many members open a door
to real and special relationships, the key to which is acquired through perseverance and
love.
